LMC Hires New Athletic Director and Head Football Coach

Lake Michigan Catholic Schools (LMC) has hired Phil McDonald as the new middle and high school athletic director and Pete Murphy as the head football coach.

“We are thrilled to be bringing on two amazing individuals with diverse experience to our athletic program,” said LMC Middle/High School Principal James White. “We are looking forward to seeing the impact they will both make on LMC athletics and for our students.”

As the middle and high school athletic director, McDonald will oversee and grow LMC’s middle and high school athletic program. Prior to joining LMC, he was with WSJM Radio where he served as the local high school and college sports director and radio show host for more than 35 years. He is also an LMC graduate.

Coach Murphy will be the head coach for the Twin City Sharks Football program, the three-way, co-op among LMC, Michigan Lutheran High School and Countryside Academy. He will oversee a developing program for grades 5-12, including Pop Warner at the elementary level, a mid-level program for grades 7 and 8 and the high school Varsity team. Coach Murphy previously coached in LMC’s mid-level program and served as defensive coordinator for the LMC varsity football team during the 2019-2020 season. He also attended LMC through 8th grade.

In addition, LMC is looking to hire an athletic director at the elementary school. This person will support, strengthen and expand LMC athletics at the elementary level. This new elementary position would also serve as the physical education and health teacher.

“We make every effort to provide our students with a holistic approach to education by providing them traditional academic experiences and athletic opportunities,” said LMC Elementary Principal Larry Hoskins. “We’re looking for someone to come in and support the expansion of our elementary athletics.”
