Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, rooted in Sacred Scripture and centered on the Eucharist, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School embraces the values of Education, Faith, and Citizenship.
Lake Michigan Catholic will showcase its newly reimagined music program at a Winter Holiday Band Concert and Reception on Monday, December 6 from 6:00 – 8:15 p.m. at Andrews University’s Howard Performing Arts Center. Led by Director of Bands Monika Ansinn, LMC band program has 92 students in grades 5-12. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will open with a free reception in the Howard Center’s lobby, where appetizers and refreshments will be served. Performances will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Now in her second year at LMC, Ansinn is a 2018 graduate of Andrews University’s music program. Dedicated to raising the bar in music education for her students, Ansinn reestablished the school’s marching band, expanded practice and performance opportunities, and introduced more advanced music. The school also competed at the District Marching Band Festival for the first time in 30 years, where the school earned a Division II rating.
“I want our students to have the same opportunities that I did, and marching band is a big part of that,” Ansinn explains. Performing at the spacious and acoustically outstanding concert hall, dressing professionally for performances, and getting out more into the community are all part of a bigger plan to elevate LMC’s music programming.
“Monika is serious about music and has high expectations,” shares LMC middle and high school principal James White. “She makes sure they have what’s needed to reach their full potential. It’s exciting to watch and the students are responding.”
All concert attendees are required to follow COVID-19 protocols including masks and social distancing throughout the event.
