"Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, rooted in Sacred Scripture and centered on the Eucharist, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School embraces the values of Education, Faith and Citizenship.”
On Monday, August 22, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School will welcome back students and launch into the 2022-23 school year with renewed commitment to a classical Catholic education rooted in faith and service. Committed to providing an educational environment built on the Gospel values of Jesus Christ, Our Lady of the Lake’s teachers go beyond core academics to prepare students to participate in an ever-changing world as faithful citizens.
“Beyond academics, our students are learning to be good citizens and to positively impact the world around them, ” shares Canonical Pastor Fr. John D. Fleckenstein. Our Lady of the Lake’s curriculum promotes active citizenship, and guides students using Christ-centered values. “Lakers learn to joyfully reflect their Catholic faith by being moral and compassionate citizens,” he says.
Students in all grades participate in service projects, and each year students create portfolios connecting what they learned during the school year with Gospel values. The school community volunteers weekly at the Benton Harbor Food Pantry, The Readiness Center and at local parishes. Religious retreats and senior Capstone Projects further deepen students’ understanding of faithful citizenship.
A strong sense of community exists between Our Lady of the Lake school and local parishes, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Saints John and Bernard Catholic Church, creating a consistent culture of respect, accountability and service. “We model and recognize good citizenship, and students work hard on being outstanding citizens by practicing respect, service, kindness, teamwork and personal responsibility,” adds Fr. Fleckenstein.
Our Lady of the Lake provides children in preschool through 12th grade a classical Catholic education where students learn faithful citizenship as part of their daily lives. An investment in an Our Lady of the Lake education pays dividends over students’ lifetimes. Studies consistently show that Catholic school graduates are more likely to go to college, vote, contribute to charitable causes, and get involved in social advocacy. They’re also more likely to pray and attend church regularly.
Enrollment is limited to preserve small class sizes, and seats in preschool through 12th grade are being filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
